Celebrating Success: Happy Graduates Against the Odds.
Malawi continues to face significant challenges in breaking the cycle of poverty and achieving sustainable development. One of the biggest obstacles is the limited access to quality education, resulting in a shortage of qualified cadre capable of driving sustainable change. According to the UNICEF Malawi 2022 Factsheet, only 15% of students complete senior secondary school, and less than 1% of young people reach the university level. This creates a significant gap in the country’s ability to nurture its developmental endeavours and empower future leaders.
That’s why stories like Happy’s matter.
We are thrilled to celebrate Happy, a recent graduate of the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS). He studied Education. His academic journey, like that of many young people we support, was not an easy one, but it is one filled with strength, purpose, and perseverance.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela
Happy’s graduation is not just a personal milestone, rather, it represents the promise of change and the power of opportunity. As a beneficiary of the Grown Too Quick Foundation (GTQF) tuition support initiative, his success stands as proof that investing in young people creates ripples of transformation that extend far beyond the classroom. Happy’s expertise is needed now more than ever. As of 2020, Malawi registers a student-to-teacher ratio of 1 teacher to 73 learnerson average and up to 120 learners.
Throughout his studies, Happy demonstrated not only academic commitment but also a deep heart for others—qualities that make him not just a graduate, but a transformative leader, mentor, and role model.
“I began my postgraduate studies without money, relying on faith—and I made it. Sometimes, all we need is to simply start. God should bless those who supported this dream in any way possible”— Happy
At GTQF, we believe that education is not a privilege, but a powerful tool for justice and change. Through our scholarships and empowerment programs, we aim to dismantle structures of systemic injustice and unlock the potential in every young person, regardless of their background.
As we celebrate Happy’s achievement, we are reminded of our mission and renewed in our commitment. We are proud to walk alongside purpose-driven young people like Happy and many others yet to come.
