At the Grown Too Quick Foundation (GTQF), we recognize that empowering young people goes beyond education and skills—it also means taking responsibility for their lives and protecting the environment they live in and will inherit. In response to the urgent need for climate action, in 2023, GTQF launched the 1010 Trees Initiative, a long-term commitment to planting at least 1,010 trees annually until 2030 as a direct contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action.
Our Mission
Through the 1010 Trees Initiative, we seek to:
Restore degraded ecosystems and combat deforestation
Strengthen climate resilience in vulnerable communities
Inspire young people to take active roles in environmental stewardship
Foster global partnerships for sustainable impact (SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals)
Taking Action: A Commitment to Green Spaces
Under the theme “Small Steps Matter: 1010 Trees Planted”, GTQF mobilized young volunteers, community members, and partners to take action. Together, we planted 1,010 trees at Michiru Nature Sanctuary mountain in Blantyre, an area facing significant deforestation due to human activity. These trees will:
Replenish lost greenery and strengthen local ecosystems
Improve air quality and contribute to carbon sequestration
Mitigate the effects of climate change, especially in Malawi, a country highly vulnerable to cyclones and El Niño-induced droughts
This initiative would not have been possible without the incredible support of our partners. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Young People’s Ministries of the United Methodist Church for a once-off Youth Service Grant, which inspired this cause (2023) and St. George’s Anglican Church Berlin for their once-off funding (2024) and their commitment to a greener future both at home and abroad. We also honor the dedication of all volunteers who made this milestone a reality.
